High Resolution "Last Supper" Image To Go On Net

A high-resolution image of Da Vinci's "Last Supper" will be posted on the Internet Saturday October 27 by an Italian technology company providing fodder for art enthusiasts and conspiracists.

The digital company, called HAL9000 after the menacing computer in Stanley Kubrick's film "2001: A Space Odyssey" will post the "Last Supper" on it's site and it will travel the Internet the company says at 16 billion pixels.

Since the popular and controversial novel, "The Da Vinci Code" hit shelves, theories about the meaning of the masterpiece have been up for debate. In the novel Dan Brown introduces the theory that Jesus married Mary Magdelene and fathered a child.

Slavisa Pesci, an information technologist and amateur scholar said the superimposition of the mural with its mirror image revealed another image depicting a figure that resembled a Templar knight and another holding a tiny baby.

HAL9000 General Manager Vincenzo Mirarchi said the reason behind the companies decision to post the image was to offer a new way to appreciate art instead of creating speculation about its meaning.

Mirarchi told Reuters that he expects the posting will bring more traffic to the site than any previous images. "We could have a few million visitors," he said.
