Okay. Just to get this out of the way, there's no nudity at Playboy U. I know that was your first question. No nudity, just like there's no sex in the champagne room. The other question is, no doubt, "how do I get in?"
You can't. Not without a student ID. Even says so in the Google results: Not Allowed.
Playboy U is the famed magazine and close-encounter-of-the-first kind-for-every-young-pre-internet-boy is picking up where Facebook left off and has launched its own social network for college students only, a .edu email address required for registration.
Which means of course, you'll be phoning up a brother, a buddy, a nephew, or colleague working on his master's degree to get a glimpse of what Playboy U has to offer.
But let me remind you, even if you can't grasp the concept of a clothed Playboy product, there is no nudity at Playboy U. So just drive by a campus in spring like the rest of the old farts.
The executives at the magazine have been growing concerned at the lack of new subscribers overall, as well as the steady decline. Most likely, the internet has something to do with that since, well, you know.
Moving online and reaching new fans, then, is a high priority. And a college social network seems just the ticket.
"It's a very lucrative market," Michael Kelman, senior media analyst at Susquehanna Financial Group, told the Associated Press. "The college kids, they're going to be better-educated and have higher disposable incomes. (But) it's been a very, very tough audience to grab."
Heh. He said "grab."
Part of the appeal will also be Playboy U's apparent exclusivity, as the college crowd also ensures mom, dad, brother, sister, and (maybe) potential employers can't find you there doing something stupid and career-shattering.
