Philly.com Joins Yahoo Newspaper Consortium

Post to Twitter Post to Facebook

I’ve never been to Philadelphia, and before today, I’d never been to Philly.com.  I’ve heard that the former is a nice city, though, and the latter is definitely a decent-looking site.  Philly.com apparently appealed to Yahoo, as well; it’s now a member of the company’s Newspaper Consortium.

“With the addition of Philly.com to the Newspaper Consortium, the momentum continues,” announced Hilary Schneider, an executive vice president at the Yahoo Publisher Network.  “The open nature of the partnership between the newspapers and Yahoo! has made this the solution of choice for the newspaper industry.”

Schneider then continued, “Consortium members see the benefit in combining the newspapers’ own unmatched local news and deep local advertising relationships with Yahoo!’s leading technologies and extensive online audience.”

I suppose we’re all familiar enough with Yahoo’s technologies, but the press release that accompanied this development states that its Newspaper Consortium’s audience is now at 21 million readers.  As for the newspapers involved in this deal, they’re The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia Daily News; in combination with Philly.com, their owner, Philadelphia Media Holdings, asserts that they reach about 2 million people per day.  Not bad.

And although I know Philadelphia food references are overdone, a nice soft pretzel also sounds very “not bad” at the moment.  Happy lunchtime, everybody.
