Allrecipes Adds Community Feature

Social food networking site Allrecipes.com has added a new Community feature to its site that allows users to find recipes by geographic region.

"Allrecipes.com is very much a social networking medium for members to share a glimpse into their own kitchens and we're excited to provide them with more options to showcase their passion for creating and sharing great food," said Lisa Sharples, president of Allrecipes.com.

Visitors to the site can search reviews, user-generated photos, recipes, menu ideas by geography or by member profile. A geographical search can be done by clicking on a specific region on the interactive map or by typing in a city name.

Users can browse member profiles of the individuals located in a specific region to find recipes and meals that are unique to the area.

"We were proud to be the first to introduce the idea of community to the online food space and are thrilled that after 10 years we're still driving the industry ahead with tools and functionality that are unique to our community," Sharples said.

Great but...

Although the features are web 2.0 social networking type. However, Allrecipes.com design looks more of a traditional website than of a web 2.0 social networking site. Recipezaar.com is much better than allrecipes in terms of web 2.0 design and features.

You might also want to stop by our site, www.bigoven.com, which allows anyone to create a free Chef Page, create RSS feeds for their "Favorite" and "Try Soon" recipes, post ratings and photos to the site, suggest recipes for their friend's "Try Soon List", and much more. Optional desktop recipe software for Windows lets you seamlessly import any of the recipes you'd like in a single click, and then you can drag and drop 'em onto a shopping list or meal plan.
