| Social Networking Soars Around The World |
MySpace attracted over 114 million visitors in June 2007, a 72 percent increase over the same month last year. Facebook saw even bigger growth, a 270 percent rise to over 52 million visitors for June 2007.
ComScore looked at several sites with at least 10 million visitors and at least 50 percent year over year growth, with significance to the North American region.
Bob Ivins, executive vice president of international markets for comScore, said it appears "social networking is not a fad but rather an activity that is being woven into the very fabric of the global Internet."
Millions of monthly visitors and numbers of people who stop by social networking sites each day support this case. A recent Facebook outage drew plenty of attention from the tech media, many of whom number among users of the site.
The real challenge has been determining the best ways to make money off the heavy visitor influx. Combinations of advertising and sponsorships offer those sites revenue opportunities, but those have yet to reach the heights of traditional media like television.
