MySpace, MSN Collaborate In China

Well over a week ago, reports surfaced that MySpace China and MSN China would partner; Luo Chuan, the CEO of Myspace China, denied them.  Now - you guessed it - the partnership has been made official.

China Web2.0 Review reported on the deal both times around.  “Myspace China partners with MSN China to provide services to MSN China’s users,” states “Tangos” about the latest development.

Over at the Pacific Epoch, Kimi Shi goes into slightly greater detail, and then adds, “MySpace China head Luo Chuan previously ran MSN China.”  It’s interesting that he would be able to bring the two companies together - such personnel changes often split corporations further apart.

Chuan seemed more focused on people than corporate politics when he spoke to Sina, however.  (Note: the following is only Google’s translation of the original Chinese, but you can get the basic ideas, and I’d rather just quote the translation than be accused of mangling or misinterpreting Chuan’s words on my own.)

The MySpace China CEO emphasized creating “the most professional, integration of the global social network platform.”  He later added, “MSN network of the Chinese community channels will be dedicated to the wider use will provide personalized and efficient online polymerization social services and to meet the needs of users in China.”

So there it is: a handshake between the small Chinese arms of two American giants.  As Search Engine Journal’s Gemme van Hasselt notes, “The question will now be if this will help Myspace China in the big battle of the Chinese social networking websites.”
