Harry Potter Pre-Orders Set Record

Amazon.com has announced that pre-orders for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" the seventh and final book in the series, has reached over a million copies in the U.S.

Globally Amazon has received around 1. 6 million pre-orders for the book breaking their previous record of 1.5 million. The deadline for Release-Date Delivery of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" in the U.S. is Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at 12:00 p.m. EDT. Amazon will guarantee delivery of the book on its release date of July 21, to all addresses within the lower 48 states or the cost of the book will be refunded.

"We are thrilled to offer our customers a low, low price for 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' plus Saturday delivery at no extra charge," said Greg Greeley, vice president of books at Amazon.com.

"As a show of gratitude to our customers, we are giving every customer who pre-orders 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' before July 21 a $5 Amazon.com promotional certificate to use on a future purchase in the month of August."

Amazon says that pre-orders for the book have been selling at a record pace since it was first offered in February 2007. First day pre-orders in the U.S. were 547 percent higher than first day pre-orders for "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince."
