There are days when it seems like Google is trying to save the world, and there are days when it seems like Google is trying to take it over. According to a recent survey from bigmouthmedia, we men tend towards that latter viewpoint.
The study actually measured responses to the question, “Is Google becoming too commercial?” I’ll leave the full statistical analysis to somebody else, but there were over 1,000 people involved, and the number was split between men and women. Also, the different between men and women was significant: 35 percent of men answered “yes,” compared to just 23 percent of women.
Of course, those numbers are still well below the 50% mark, so Google doesn’t have to worry about facing down some sort of majority vote. Also, 34 percent of the overall sample just threw its hands up in the air and checked the “I don’t know” box, so the search engine giant needn’t feel that it’s polarized the populace.
Still, it’s not ideal that about one-third of this British sample thinks Google could be straying away from its evil-free roots (though Search Engine Land’s Chris Sherman came to the company’s defense). Your humble author suggests that Google atone by giving away free ClimateSaver PCs.
