Mrs. Brin Gets Google Investment

Google has dropped some cash in Anne Wojcicki's 23andMe biotech firm, to the tune of $3.9 million for a minority holding in the company co-founded by Sergey Brin's new missus. There are probably plenty of men who help their wives with their work. Very few are going to be able to match the generosity of Google's co-founder, whose company gained a stake in 23andMe by writing a check with lots of digits before the decimal point.

MarketWatch picked up on the investment, as noted in an 8-K filing with the SEC that posted today.

Other details of the transaction showed Brin's involvement with 23andMe before this investment:

Prior to Google’s investment in 23andMe, Sergey provided approximately $2.6 million in interim debt financing to 23andMe, which was repaid as part of this financing transaction. Google’s Audit Committee reviewed and approved this transaction as part of Google’s procedures for entering into transactions with related parties. As part of its decision-making process, the Audit Committee was advised by independent counsel and received and considered a report from an independent advisor as to the valuation of 23andMe.
"23andMe is a privately held company developing new ways to help you make sense of your own genetic information," Wojcicki's company says on its website. The 23 refers to the twenty-three paired volumes of one's own genetic blueprint.
