Google Video Could Yield To YouTube

The search functionality of Google Video will be retained, but the other video functions it provides could be removed in favor of sending people to YouTube. When it comes to duplication of services, Google is nowhere near Yahoo, which has several efforts that probably need consolidation. Google does have one redundancy, that of Google Video and YouTube.

That may not last for long. UberPulse cited Google's Marissa Mayer on a potential shift for Video. She commented about it during Google's Searchology event:

YouTube is clearly a better platform, it offers more choices [keeping a video private or public]. There are some hosting benefits on Google Video like uploading longer videos that we're trying to transfer over to YouTube. But I have the feeling YouTube will ultimately become the hosting, sort of social network site for videos.

You'll go to look watch videos and share with your friends. I think over time you'll see Google Video swinging more that what you expect which is Google meaning search, search over video become the site where if you got a pointed need you'll to get it from there but if you really want to browse, share, explore, host, upload... that kind of thing it will be more towards YouTube.

That will mean all the video features will be available through YouTube, while Google Video would live on as the video search option Google has had for some time now. Considering how bad YouTube's search has been, it's probably about time they did this.
