| Yahoo Begins Unlimited Email Storage |
Yahoo said in March they would update their email service to have no limits on email storage. This would match AOL Mail's unlimited storage, not to mention exceeding Google's continually rising Gmail storage.
"We hope we’re setting a precedent for the future," Kremer told WebProNews in March.
Unlimited storage will require Yahoo's email users to follow the usual policies and procedures as they have been previously. Those who attempt to abuse the system will likely be punished for doing so through loss of their email account access.
The upgrade applies to users of the classic Yahoo Mail as well as the Yahoo Mail beta that has been running for several months.
We were pleasantly surprised to see the Mail beta has received some attention to its speed of operation. The web-based client had been painfully slow in the months immediately following its opening for testing.
Yahoo has made some back-end changes that are working out much better on the client side. Instead of watching the little Yahoo person do tricks on the "please wait" screen, the inbox launches much faster. It's not desktop-client fast yet, but it's close to Outlook and Thunderbird right now.
