Forget Googling, Go Ahead And Yahoo

Post to Twitter Post to Facebook

Upon hearing that the big name in search has been objecting strenuously to having its name used as a verb, Yahoo decided to have some fun with the controversy.

First you need to visit the Yahoo! homepage and click on the big exclamation point in the Yahoo logo.

Hear that yodel? Yahoo wants you to click that any time you want.

Tara Kirchner of Yahoo Search posted a note today on the Yahoo blog that invited the company's fans to Yahoo whenever they like:

There's been some reports about how Google is trying to stop people from using the term, googling. When I heard about it, I was like, "Hello, gift horse, mouth!"

Most companies, including ours, spend a great deal of time trying to turn our brands into household names. In fact, we just kicked off a marketing campaign called "Your Yahoo! has changed" that is meant to encourage people to have fun with our brand by creating their own commercials.
Those commercials can be uploaded to Yahoo Video as part of their "Our Yahoo is changing" promotion. Yahoo users and films schools partnering with Yahoo have been contributing videos, and visitors to Yahoo can view those accomplishments.

Or, the more surreal among you can visit Kirchner's post and sing along with the lyrics she wrote for the famous song that came to her mind when thinking about the new promotion. "He wanted twenty-two bucks, but I talked him down to seventeen..."
