A report came out today that Google is working on a project called "Google Health Scrapbook," and has enlisted e-health companies like WebMD and Intuit.
VC Ratings reports that Google executives met up with WebMD last week in New York as the company begins developing the service. Unclear as to when the service will launch, the article said Google Health Scrapbook would allow users to log in and research medical providers, check medical records, and pay bills.
The air was let out of Google snoopers in May when Marissa Mayer announced on Press Day the release of Googe Co-op. Googlites had been expecting a health-related vertical of some kind, but not a social network part of a three-pronged offering that included electronics, travel, and automobiles.
A Google spokesperson was as vague as usual:
"Health has been an area of interest at Google for some time. We have been doing a variety of research in the health area, including how to improve the quality of health-related search results. Google Co-op is one reflection of that. We continue to look for more ways to benefit our users in the area of health, but we do not have any products to announce at this time."
