A forestry company is enjoying some inadvertent traffic to its website, courtesy of Nintendo. Only Nintendo can say if it was aware that Wii.com was already owned before the console was launched.
The game company's web designation for Wii information is wii.nintendo.com. Wii.com is owned by timber product company Weyerhaeuser, who acquired the domain when the company bought out Willamette Industries, Inc. Willamette Industries, Inc. (WII for short), though later dissolved by Weyerhaeuser, bought the domain in 1994.
Now, wii.com might as well not exist. Type it into a browser and you'll be redirected to Weyerhaeuser's website. The company has told several sources that it has not heard from Nintendo about purchasing the domain, but is willing to entertain offers.
They may be waiting a while, according to vnunet.com.
Wii.com is owned by Willamette Industries and to my understanding we are not planning on using that website," said a spokeswoman for Nintendo.
Wii told you it was a stupid name, Nintendo. Maybe you can snag Oui.com to lessen the confusion in France. Nope, it's already taken too.
