Televangelism Ready For IPTV

Televangelism is soon to become IP-televangelism (webevangelism? Netevangelism? Evangelism 2.0?) as one of the largest networks in Christian programming, The Inspiration Networks, sets up a broadband video hub called Inspiration.net.

The Inspiration Networks regularly brings 30 million households the (often controversial) teachings of A-list televangelists like Benny Hinn and Jerry Falwell. There are four cable TV networks run by Inspiration - INSP, I-Lifetv, La Familia Cosmovision, and Inspiration Network International.

Media Post quotes Bill Airy, Inspiration's COO, about the move online:

"'This is the dawn of a new era serving of the most important market segments of the country,' Bill Airy, Inspiration's COO stated earlier this month, noting that the potential audience for such programming represents about 40 percent of the U.S. population.

'We will leverage all our programming and promotional assets through more than 30 million households that receive them and the more than 8 million people weekly' that watch Inspiration's TV channels, he added."

The potential for advertising revenue is another driving force, says Media Post, as the sponsorship base is sure to open up in such an international medium - even to the "grass roots" level of faith-based business.
