Yahoo, Starbucks Sponsor Caffeine Love

Ah, romance-so ripe with limerance it's a marketer's dream. At one time, it was diamonds, chocolate, wine, and flowers. And now it's Yahoo! and Starbucks-helping geeks and irritable, pretentious intellectuals have sex since 1995. Welcome to the age of digital caffeinated love.

Until Valentine's Day, Yahoo! Personals has teamed up with Starbucks for Espresso Dating, an online dating service that comes with a $10 Starbucks card for every subscriber. Now the would-be lovers can meet an lie in person.

A third of Yahoo! Personals subscribers polled said meeting a potential mate for coffee was the first date of choice. A coffee house provides a relaxing, familiar location conducive to short meetings and easy exit strategies.

The website has a slew of information for online romance seekers from the Espresso Dating Guide as well as a history of dating, dating ideas, and Coffee House Tales.

Coffee House Tales: A Poem

Sipping my $4 coffee
I look across the chessboard
The rhythmic beatnik
Whining a new injustice
Makes me think of dead cats
And the quantum theory
So present in your eyes
If it wasn't so dark
I could see them
Did you know you could
Feed a child for a day
For the price of a cup of coffee?
Mother never loved me.
Please pass the cream.
