Don't Say YouTube To MySpace

The holidays wouldn't be the same without an Orwellian overtone derived from some tech company practicing a smidgen of censorship, in this case MySpace apparently doing its best to keep users from displaying videos from or even mentioning YouTube.

Online video service YouTube has been documenting about a week's worth of seeing popular community site MySpace do everything it can to prevent YouTube from even being mentioned on the site.

"We're still amazed that in this day in age MySpace would resort to such drastic, blatant censorship. Surely they must realize that their users will not stand for such a thing?" YouTube posted in the company blog.

One YouTube user's comments that were contained in the post showed how far MySpace seemed willing to go to shut out the service: "MySpace has youtube completely blocked and not just embeds...You can't even send a link with Youtube in it..I tried to trick it by using tinyurl.com and that did not even get past the filter."

Another user wrote that MySpace was even censoring mentions of YouTube in personal messages. Whatever the problem may be, MySpace doesn't seem to be addressing it in its terms of service or FAQs for using MySpace. YouTube users on MySpace haven't received any answers despite requests for assistance from MySpace support.
