Yahoo Trims Text Ad Length

Brevity will be a necessity for Yahoo Search Marketing advertisers, because in less than a month Yahoo will chop ads down from 190 characters to 70 characters in length.

Yahoo emulates Google as this recent article in ClickZ News stated. Text ads are getting a makeover and will have to slim down to just 70 characters, a practice Google has had in place for some time.

The difference between Yahoo and Google text blocks will be how Yahoo allows all 70 characters to be part of one block, while Google breaks it out to a pair of 35-character lines.

ClickZ said marketers have until January 18th to get those ads down to the new character limit. The story described how Yahoo communicated the change, and why they're making it:

"Our research has shown that by improving the search experience in this way, advertisers can generally expect to see an increase in clicks, while maintaining their conversion rates," the company wrote in a letter to advertisers.
