GoFish Nets Deal With Tribune

The Tribune Company's online division, Tribune Interactive, plans to use GoFish technology for multimedia search on the Metromix websites.

Partying on with the assortment of city and nightlife sites run by Tribune Interactive for places like Chicago and Los Angeles will include a variety of multimedia content, delivered with the GoFish Web Service. GoFish Technologies disclosed the new agreement in a statement.

GoFish said its index of some 100 million multimedia files, including music, videos, and ringtones, will be available through the more than 50 Metromix sites run by Tribune Interactive. The Metromix sites provide local entertainment and nightlife information in cities where the Tribune has a newspaper and a web presence.

It's the second newspaper-related deal for GoFish. About.com, which is owned by the New York Times, also licensed the GoFish technology. IAC's search engine company Ask Jeeves did so last month as well.

Access to the GoFish index comes via an open API. GoFish provides that API to partner companies like Tribune so their developers can build out an application without having to create a search application and populate its index, a time-consuming process at best. API access to the existing content in an index like GoFish's speeds up that development process.
