Political Blogs Picking Up Steam

Blogs have become quite the topic for debate in recent days for a number of reasons including credibility, integrity, quality and accuracy. Political blogs are tour de force for internet political circles and some new ones are showing up on the radar after working on the recent scandals in Washington D.C.

The New York Time (NYT) recently ran a story on the rise of political blogs and their impact. The recent scandals in Washington have been a breeding grounding for commentators with thoughtful comments that don't sound like the same old comments heard on the media.

They list a number of blogs who've built strong followings already. They include Daily Kos, AmericaBlog, Instapundit and Wonkette. They even Ariana Huffington's HuffingtonPost blog. They're all doing quite well, with great advertising and millions of hits a month.

A few new ones have crept up out of the masses though. The NYT listed several other blogs who've picked up some steam in recent weeks. Steven Clemons of the New America Foundation had picked up a lot of hits for his Washington Note. They also mentioned FireDogLake and its 200 comments in the first 90 minutes after a post about the news conference. They followed with a blog by Tom Maguire of JustOneMinute got mentioned by Technorati.

The article discusses just how quickly a quality blog with thoughtful commentary can pick up a fat amount of traffic. While most discussions here center on search, advertising and marketing, political blogs are a strong force with huge numbers in the blogosphere. The good ones also command top dollar for their ad space.

As more news pours out of Washington including the new Supreme Court nominee, look for some more blogs to move up as well. With politics continuing to burn brightly in the national spotlight, more people will seize the opportunity to offer up their two cents and maybe make a buck or two on the side.
