After yesterday's "inadvertent" unveiling of base.google.com, the search engine company provided some more details about what people saw and grabbed as screenshots.

Google's search engine has been going out and gathering content from the web for over seven years now. Users from individuals to Fortune 500 corporations who created web sites likely ended up in the massive Google index soon after making them available online.

Now, Google is prepping a way for people to get their content into the index without first publishing it on a web site. Google isn't saying much about it yet, but a company product manager, Tom Oliveri, blogged about it briefly:

You may have seen stories today reporting on a new product that we're testing, and speculating about our plans. Here's what's really going on. We are testing a new way for content owners to submit their content to Google, which we hope will complement existing methods such as our web crawl and Google Sitemaps. We think it's an exciting product, and we'll let you know when there's more news.
Google had already confirmed yesterday those fleeting, tantalizing glimpses of the new service were legitimate. Speculation on What It Could Mean has focused on a potential entry into the online classified field, placing it in direct competition with sites like eBay, Craigslist, and others.

That could also mean a Google Payment product, another much-rumored offering, could be close behind.
