VeriSign Feeds Moreover $30 Million

After digesting Weblogs.com in a recent transaction, VeriSign acquired newsfeed content provider Moreover, a deal that had been rumored for the past week.

VeriSign, best known for its role in supporting the Internet's infrastructure, has been satisfying a craving for the blogosphere and RSS feeds with some recent purchases. Today, the company announced it would pick up Moreover, a real-time news and business information provider for $30 million.

Moreover has been in play at a few of the major search engines like MSN and Ask Jeeves to provide content. As part of VeriSign, Moreover will be part of a more scalable publishing platform.

The Jordan, Edmiston Group, a New York-based investment bank, represented Moreover in the transaction. That company's VP of Marketing, Adam Gross, commented on the acquisition via email:

"Blogs are gaining scale, and large acquirers are starting to buy in (AOL/Weblogs Inc, Verisign / Moreover, VeriSign, Weblogs.com). This transaction attracted interest from a number of major tech and media players.

VeriSign can take this in several directions, based on Moreover's diverse content (news, blogs, TV video) and flexible technology. But the most interesting application is that Verisign will likely use Moreover's technology to improve the quality and reliability of information about blogs, as they provide a larger share of information, feed and search results on the web."
