AOL Building Blog Search

One site has posted how an AOL Blog Search tool will be available this week, as the blog search battle heats up between search engines.

AOL reportedly spent $25 million for Weblogs Inc, a collection of blogs to be added to AOL's collection of content. Now, Search Engine Journal has reported AOL has been working with BlogPulse to develop a blog search tool.

Intelliseek, which is behind BlogPulse, announced today how its "blog data, statistics, trend charts and blog entries will be featured on the AOL(R) network. These daily blog reports will update Web users in real time about Internet activity and 'buzz.'"

Blog search seems to have replaced video search, which replaced audio search, as the latest search engine craze. Google launched a blog search tool, and Yahoo now provides blog search results alongside those returned via queries to its news search engine.

AOL has offered blogs via its AIM Blogs and AOL Journals. The Weblogs Inc acquisition followed by a blog search tool appears to fit in with the corporate strategy, as AOL shifts from a subscription basis to what CEO Richard Parsons calls an "audience-driven" focus, ie online content.

Blogging has grown to widespread usage and mainstream acceptance. Its writers have had an impact on major news outlets, and the number of people who create blogs increases each day. With that growth has come a few problems, notably that of spam blogs, created solely for the purpose of luring visitors to view advertisements.
