Fuchs Up On Google Blog

Mark Fuchs, the chief accountant for the search engine company, has posted an overview of how Google will provide more information with its earnings announcements.

Warning: Financial reporting minutiae below. Proceed with caution, writes Fuchs in Google's blog today. The company has an earnings conference call and webcast scheduled for Thursday, October 20th, at 4:30 ET.

The text of Fuchs' entry focuses on some additional figures Google will report with regards to earnings per share:

(W)e're going to include a so-called pro-forma, or non-GAAP, diluted earnings per share (EPS) number as a supplement to our GAAP EPS number.

In the past, we've only provided GAAP EPS. But because Wall Street analysts typically estimate and describe our results with non-GAAP EPS numbers, that resulted in some confusing apples-to-oranges analyses of our results.
The changes should help investors understand the company's financial situation better, and provide a bit more transparency into how items like stock-based compensation impact earnings.

Interested parties can set up some lawn chairs in front of the computer monitor and enjoy a quality beverage while watching the webcast, available online at http://investor.google.com/webcast on the 20th.
