Google Walloping Search World In Market Share
The majority share of global search owned by Google actually decreased slightly over the past two months.
Even with a drop of 0.3 percent, Google still owns 56.9 percent of the global market for search engine queries. Yahoo is a distant second at 21.2 percent, web analytics firm OneStat has reported.
MSN Search came the closest to breaking double digits, but still fell short at 8.9 percent. AOL Search ranked fourth with 3.2 percent. OneStat didn't provide listings for the remainder of the search market, but after the top four, less than 10 percent of the market is still in play for the likes of Ask.com, which is now minus its iconic butler Jeeves.
The top three search engines all touted some accomplishments to open the week. Google Video featured the new UPN comedy "Everybody Hates Chris," a vehicle for comedian Chris Rock. Reuters reported the premiere episode will be available starting today for four days online.
Yahoo began its year-long experiment in original content with the debut of Kevin Sites in the Hot Zone. The online series will feature solo reporting from the war correspondent from battlegrounds around the world.
Microsoft went a different route in announcing the availability of its ad network in Singapore and France today. The company very much wants a piece of the multi-billion dollar paid-search market and will make the service available for testing in the US in October.
