The Mozilla Foundation has released the beta version of the much-anticipated Firefox 1.5 upgrade, which includes improved security as well as improved Mac support.
Firefox 1.5 has been given the code name "Deer Park", and is the first major upgrade for Firefox since it was released last November. A second beta version of Deer Park is scheduled for release on October 5.
The final product is supposed to be out in November or December. The current beta version can be downloaded at Mozilla Foundation's Web site. Tom Espiner of ZDNet UK reports:
The beta version of the popular open source browser includes new features such as drag-and-drop reordering of browser tabs and faster navigation. There have also been improvements to usability, including descriptive error pages, redesigned options menu, RSS discovery and a "Safe Mode", according to Mozilla.
"We're delivering a software update capability that is holistic, that takes into account how people use Firefox," said Mozilla head of products and marketing Chris Beard.
People have been waiting for this beta for a while now. It was originally planned for release in July, and was pushed back a couple of times. The release should make a lot of people happy.
