Lycos Launches Katrina Missing Persons Search

Since the affects of Hurricane Katrina crippled large portions of the Mississippi Gulf Coast and New Orleans last week, the various search engines have been providing a great deal of support to the resulting humanitarian effort.

Each major engine has done an exemplary job in providing services and resources as needed. Of course, the biggest recipient of these charitable acts is normally the Red Cross. However, Lycos is now providing a service designed to help families of potential hurricane victims in their efforts in finding their missing loved ones.

Because Internet search can be such a powerful tool, Lycos launched a Katrina Missing Persons meta search feature that allows people to query 35 different Katrina missing persons services at once. Some of these sites include:

CNN - Hurricane Katrina Safe List
Craigslist: New Orleans Lost & Found
WWLTV.com
KatrinaSurvivor.net
The Weather Channel
Family Messages.org
Yahoo! Katrina Missing Message Board
Yahoo! Katrina I'm Okay Message Board

Users can also add a site to this list if necessary.

Lycos' Katrina missing persons search service is just one of the many acts that have been offered by the search industry to help with the much-needed hurricane relief effort.
