MSN Purchases VoIP Capabilities

There are a number of ways to inform the public of your business. Two of the more popular ways being used by Internet-related companies deals with either a large online and offline marketing campaign, which is usually astronomically expensive. The second, and seemingly more preferred method uses more of a viral approach.

The key to the viral approach is to conduct some sort of business using a down-low style of approach and allow the trade publications to spread the word for you. This type of advertising is used a great deal by Google. While they do make use of press releases, the Google Blog is just as accurate a provider of breaking news.

MSN, a company that has embraced the advertising campaign method of news distribution, seems to be relying on the viral method of advertising for their latest endeavor. Without a great deal of fanfare, MSN has purchased the rights to Teleo, an Internet start-up focusing on VoIP services and pay-per-call technology. According to MarketingVOX, users can expect to see Skype-like capabilities on MSN Messenger before long, a move made to match the services of Yahoo Messenger's VoIP feature and Google's newly launched VoIP-capable Google Talk client.

Apparently, the pay-per-call technology was the deal-breaker for Microsoft, who already possesses the ability to implement VoIP services. The feeling is MSN's PP-call service would be a possible real estate for future MSN advertising placements because connected phone calls may constitute an actual lead.
