General Dynamics Picks Up a Tadpole

Tadpole Computer Inc., which is known for its Unix-based platforms for military, government and commercial operations, was acquired today by General Dynamics.

Neither company has disclosed the details of the transaction, but apparently it is effective immediately. Tadpole employs about 60 people. They will all become employees of General Dynamics C4 Systems.

"Tadpole Computer's products, services and capabilities are synergistic with our growing operation and complement our existing rugged computing platform offerings for tactical environments requiring mobile, reliable and secure solutions," said Mark A. Fried, president of General Dynamics C4 Systems.

"In addition, we look forward to continuing to meet the requirements of Tadpole's existing customers and to expanding those relationships as appropriate," he added.

Tadpole already has a strategic partnership with Sun Microsystems, and supports its Solaris operating system for SPARC platforms

General Dynamics shares went down 89 cents closing at $114.27 on the New York Stock Exchange according to AP.
