Opera Gets Answers

Answers.com, that is, and the arrangement will be a partnership that places access to its database on the Opera browser toolbar.

The parent of Answers.com, GuruNet, disseminated a press release about how Answers will be included in the Opera web browser and portal. Advertising revenue generated from visitors to co-branded pages will be split between the two companies.

In the statement, GuruNet said Answers content will be available in a number of places on and in Opera:

•  via Opera's dropdown search toolbar;
•  through the Encyclopedia, Dictionary, and Translate menu items in the right-click context menus;
•  and through integration into the Opera home page.

Opera has not seen much market share yet with its browser. Firefox has received a lot more media attention with its open source browser and related Thunderbird email client. But Opera has some advanced features, like voice control, that aren't present in other browsers.

Answers.com is a useful resource, drawing information from a number of places to answer queries. Those results come from sites like WikiPedia and Google. In addition to its search engine web site, a download of 1-Click Answers provides users with an Alt-Click feature. By holding Alt while clicking a word or a highlighted phrase, 1-Click Answers submits that as a query to its database and returns the response to the browser.
