Ask Jeeves Developing Paid Search Platform

Not content to watch Google and Yahoo gobble all the goodies in the paid-search market, Ask Jeeves is working to develop its own paid-search platform.

Speculation around an Ask Jeeves paid-search system have been circulating for months, mostly based on the recent acquisition of Ask by Barry Diller and the InterActive Corporation. Diller publicly speculated on the development of a paid-search network for IAC last spring.

As reported by Wendy Davis in MediaPost's Online Media Daily, an Ask Jeeves paid-search platform would look similar to Google and Yahoo's systems with placements determined by keyword relevance, bid prices, and a click-through filter to insure that popular ads appear more frequently. Minimum bids are reported to be 5 cents per click.

Paid ads appearing at Ask Jeeves are currently generated by Google AdWords in an agreement that is not scheduled to expire until spring 2007. MSN also announced the development of a paid-search platform, MSN adCenter back in March.
