Martha Stewart Makes Discovery

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia has entered a partnership with Discovery Communications, in which MSLO's "Martha" television show will be rebroadcast on Discovery's TLC network.

MSLO will also be developing a 13-part home improvement show that will air on one of Discovery's 16 channels. Distribution of selections from the company's existing programming library is also part of the deal.

"We're thrilled that Martha will be available to television viewers in a later time period," said MSLO President and CEO Susan Lyne. "Our partnership with Discovery Communications also will give us a platform to create new lifestyle programming, while expanding the audience for our evergreen library product."

The new 13-part home improvement series focuses on six women who are coming off of welfare, recovering from bankruptcy, and getting out of rehab. Each woman will be partnered with a mentor from a design team.

"Every day, we strive to give viewers interesting and inspiring information that will make their everyday lives easier and more enjoyable," said Martha Stewart. "The new daily show will feature a live, participatory audience, intriguing guests and our signature 'how-to' lifestyle content."

"We are so excited that it will be available to TLC's inquisitive and engaged viewers," added Martha. "Our new home improvement series will inspire and inform, while mentoring and teaching valuable life skills -- from repairing brickwork, laying flooring, painting rooms and installing a functional and lovely kitchen."

On the new show, the women will get into roofing, electrical wiring, painting, and decorating. The series is set to begin production this fall and will air sometime next year on a Discovery network that hasn't yet been decided.
