June Sees 2 Million New Job Postings Online

The Conference Board has begun to measure the number of job postings appearing on Internet job sites.

Nearly 1.4 first-time job openings were posted in June for each 100 people in the US work force, according to The Conference Board in a press release. That gives a figure of just over 2 million first-time job postings.

The Conference Board Help-Wanted OnLine Data Series was introduced today. The firm also has maintained an index of print ads for over 50 years. Also, TCB states that the online series is not a direct measure of job vacancies.

But it will demonstrate the presence of postings on major job boards in given markets, a factor in determining the rates and effectiveness of online advertising. More postings would mean a greater chance of having more ads seen by a given visitor.

In June, the New England region featured the most online job postings. Sites there had just over 2 first-time postings per 100 people in the region's labor force. The West South Central region of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas had the weakest showing with under 1 ad per 100 people in that region's work force.

TCB will work with WANTED Technologies for data, and CareerBuilder.com has agreed to provide financing.
