Users can search Yahoo via text messaging, and the company has also expanded its mobile browser web search service.
With a SMS to YAHOO (92466) containing a required shortcut, Yahoo SMS search can return text based results on local business listings, weather, stock quotes, sports scores, and movie showtimes.
Users can also use Yahoo's SMS search like a calculator or a dictionary, and will be able to find the nearest WiFi hotspot for their laptop too.
A text message will be returned with the results; up to three text messages may be returned as a result of a single query. Currently, the SMS Search service is available to Sprint, Verizon, and Cingular users.
For those who use mobile browsers, Yahoo has expanded its support beyond HTML-capable browsers only. Now, Yahoo can provide content to XHMTL browsers that use WAP 2.0.
Yahoo's SMS Search may return a result with a URL included, leading to a mobile web page with more information. The company's extension of support for more browsers makes this feature useful to a greater number of mobile users.
For those Googlites out there who prefer Google services, Google has had SMS options available for product price comparisons plus features similar to Yahoo's SMS offering.
