Tropical Storm Cindy Pounds The Gulf Coast
Louisiana continues to ride out Cindy as she dishes out 70 mile per hour winds and she's headed for Mississippi. Rains are expected to hit the 4 to 6 inch range and the entire Gulf Coast is expecting to be deluged. The National Hurricane Center in Miami said there could be up to 10 inches in some locations.
The tropical storm warning covered Morgan City, Louisiana to Destin, Florida. The storm is preparing to cut across the mouth of the Mississippi and is heading northeast.
According to the NHC, winds have been sustained at 70 miles and hour and one offshore oil platform reported a gust of 99 mph at 150 ft. The NHC also warned of possible tornados over portions of southeastern Louisiana, southern Mississippi, southern Alabama and the Florida panhandle.
What makes this storm especially pleasant is that Dennis is lined right up behind Cindy. The storms were unusual a couple of ways. One was that they both formed on the same day. The other is that Dennis marks the only time in history the fourth named storm of the season happened by July 5th.
Dennis currently runs through the Caribbean and is expected to pick up quite a but of steam by Thursday, possibly hitting hurricane strength as it moves west-northwest. According to the Weather.com, Dennis should be in the Gulf by the weekend and could quite possibly hit the U.S.
