Yesterday America Online launched a patched version of the Netscape 8.0 browser, which fixes a flaw that caused XML rendering to break in Microsoft's Internet Explorer.
In May, IE program manager Dave Massy pointed the finger at Netscape for causing the bug. America Online had blamed it on poor documentation on IE's part.
"After installing Netscape 8 the XML rendering capabilities of Internet Explorer no longer work," wrote Massy. "That means that if you navigate in IE to an XML file such as an RSS feed or an XML file with an XSLT transformation applied then rather than seeing the data you are presented with a blank page."
The new version of Netscape 8.0 also fixes everal other bugs. Some of them caused the browser to crash. The company said that the performance of the software has also been improved.
Netscape isn't the only browser that has been upgraded. Opera Software released version 8.01 of its Windows and Linux browsers. They also released Version 8 for Macintosh.
