Travel Blogs Bypass Media

Rather than rely on travel writers to tout the best Pennsylvania destinations, the state's tourism office is relying on six bloggers to document their travels throughout the state. The AP tells us that...

Six blogs have been created for selected "real people" to record their visits to prime Pennsylvania locations over the summer in exchange for their expenses paid.

"We want to speak to consumers in a voice that they want to identify with," said spokeswoman Carrie Fischer.

It's an interesting move to bypass travel writers completely. And we've talked about how travel blogs are a natural for our favorite medium.

But this is not without risk. What if someone has an off day? When asked what she'll do if someone posts a bad review, Fischer said "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it."

Hmmm, I hope she's already planned how to cross that bridge. Something's bound to go wrong in vacation land.

The blogs went live last week and, IMHO, they are nicely designed. Check them out.
