As many of you who follow the search industry may know, recently Google integrated satellite technology onto their Google Maps service.
Since it's launch, a number of hacks and services have been launch using Google Maps. However, a recent upgrade by Keyhole (who Google bought the technology from) may increase Google Maps' usability by a large margin.
According to The Unofficial Google Blog, Keyhole, who recently visually indexed the entire globe, is offering this updated map service, which will called Google Earth. Their blog entry reveals that when using the map to view different locations, the experience will be similar to a fake flying experience, something Google Maps does not provide.
The service will also allow you to cruise, dive, ascend, and tilt as you continue your viewing experience.
Google Earth will also be heavily integrated into Google Local. With these two services working together, trip-planning can turn into an actual test drive of the route the trip will take. And just like TUGB says, Google Earth promises to be fantastic, provided it does what it says.
