The new package will provide users with a more secure Web surfing experience than before.
The SBC Yahoo! Online Protection suite will contain anti-virus and anti-spyware programs, a popup blocker, parental controls, and anti-spam tools for user mailboxes.
According to TechWeb News, Yahoo surveyed its users, and while most considered security "extremely important," few wanted to take on the task themselves. They cited a desire to have an all-in-one solution available to handle those threats and keep itself up to date.
One must wonder if these same folks were interviewed by Microsoft, as they have cited similar consumer wants in the security department as they unveiled the Windows OneCare package yesterday with similar functions.
Competitors like AOL and EarthLink have been offering similar suites to their customers for free, so Yahoo found it important to follow suit and bring their own security product to its subscribers.
