Al Gore To Get Internet Award

He joked about inventing the Internet, but the former Vice-President's contributions were key to its development.

During a career in politics, Al Gore was a strong promoter of faster telecommunications and the Internet. An offhanded comment led people to briefly think he considered himself more than just a proponent.

Whether or not you've laughed at jokes about Mr. Gore's claim, he was politically helpful to the agencies developing what has become the modern Internet.

And the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, known for their Webby Awards, wants to recognize him for it.

No less a personage than Vint Cerf, who himself may really be the inventor of the Internet, will give Mr. Gore a lifetime achievement award in New York City on June 6.
