Buried beneath 20 feet of Sand in the Saqqara Pyramids Complex south of Cairo, excavators uncovered what they say may be "the most beautiful mummy ever found in Egypt.
The 2,300-year-old mummy was found in the necropolis of King Teti with a colorful and artistic sarcophagus cover laid out on fine gold.
"The artists who made this mummy over 2000 years ago demonstrated the brilliance of the ancient Egyptians by using stunning colors and depicting his face so graphically," said Zahi Hawass, chief of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities.
The mummy will be given a CT scan to help determine how he lived his life. Afterward, he will be moved for display at Saqqara's Museum of Imhotep.
