Project Fusion to unite Oracle's E-Business Suite with PeopleSoft and JD Edwards applications.
While it won't happen overnight, the merging of Oracle's E-Business Suite with their PeopleSoft acquisitions could begin in 2007.
"This is not some big atomic event that's going to happen in four or five years," said Oracle President Charles Phillips, speaking to a gathering of Oracle and PeopleSoft customers in Massachusetts on Wednesday. "It's more evolutionary, more about embracing standards, more about delivering things that look like information applications. Project Fusion is a project over time."
Project Fusion will see the applications merge on a Java-based service-oriented architecture; many current Oracle offerings run on Java already.
Concerns from industry leaders still persist. Doug Rademacher, CIO of American Power Conversion Corp.,said, "As an Oracle [11i] user, I'm not that concerned. My question is, What do I get out of [Fusion], and will Oracle be distracted? But I'm optimistic."
