The U.S. chip manufacturer released prices for the new AMD Opteron Dual Core processors. The entry-level Opteron 865 will run for $1,514 and is about the same price for their top single core processor.
The new dual core processors wil be released tomorrow and CEO Hector Ruiz said there's more coming. The dual-core Opteron 800 and 200 series are should hit later this quarter and the 100 series will be available to the market in the third quarter.
These releases come as Intel battled to get ahead of AMD by releasing their own dual core processor line on Monday.
The race for performance hardware continues on. If you like performance cars, everyone knows you get high-pressure hoses, 5-speed transmissions and they do 0-60 in 2 seconds. At the very least, you have to have them shipped in from Italy. With computers, the dual core processors are the next level in performance software. Along with your Nvidia chip set and your Soundblaster cards, now comes the new ultimate processor power or the DUAL CORE processor. When speed is of the essence, the dual core processor is the way to go.
