Although the initial hubbub over email storage capacities has died down, it appears as if it's ready to start back up again. Apparently, Yahoo's email service is preparing to offer another increase in member storage, bringing the fight for email subscribers back to the front.

According to numerous reports, Yahoo is planning on increasing the amount of storage for their free email service to 1 gigabyte. After the Gmail explosion last year, MSN's Hotmail and Yahoo increased their storage capacities, but not to the level of Gmail's 1 gig.

Because users are actually using email storage as additional areas to store photos and documents, the demand of increased storage capacities is real. And although it took almost a year to follow suit, Yahoo will finally be offering the holy grail of free email storage, 1 gigabyte.

When Yahoo initially increased capacities last year, they offered two different services. The first one, which is the free service, offered 250 megabytes worth of storage. Their second offering, a pay service called Yahoo Mail Plus, offers users 2 gigabytes, but also carries a $19.99 a year price tag.

Yahoo is expected to upgrade their new storage capacity in late April, with the process taking around 2 weeks. The new storage feature will be offered globally to all Yahoo members, in multiple languages. Gmail's service is currently only available as an English language service.
