Samsung Unveils Six New MP3 players

Samsung has unveiled six new portable MP3 players in an effort to better compete in the digital music player industry.

Samsung already has eight models in the market dominated by Apple.

"We aim to sell more than 5 million MP3 players this year versus 1.7 million sold last year and will seek various strategic alliances with content providers such as Microsoft to boost sales," said Samsung vice president Kim Suh-kyum.

According to a Computer Business Review Online article,

According to reports, the company hopes to boost its 2004 sales figure of 1.7 million to a hopeful five million units this year in an effort to establish a 10% share in the US market. It will join other media firms such as Sony and Creative Technology, and computer giants Dell and Gateway, in the battle to overtake Apple, who has enjoyed a dominant position in the industry thanks to its iPod product line.

In addition, Samsung said it would try to prioritize the needs of its customers by communicating with them through an online community to produce products that will satisfy. Media speculation has also suggested that it will partner with local digital contents providers in foreign markets to offer its Yepp MP3 users to download music files to digital music devices.
