Del Monte Foods said that its profit for its latest quarter went down 9.3% as a result of higher steel and energy costs.
Del Monte earned $48.5 million in the fiscal third quarter compared to $53.5 million the previous year.
According to MarketWatch,
"Excluding costs for the integration of acquired businesses, earnings would have been 24 cents a share, in line with the average estimate of analysts polled by Thomson First Call.
Revenue rose 6.2 percent to $861.3 million, exceeding analyst forecasts of $849.9 million, amid higher volumes from new products and increased pricing.
Sales were up across each of the company's operating segments, including StarKist, private label soup and pet products."
