Molson Coors Begins Cutting Costs
Now that that Molson Coors merger is complete, they are on to cost cutting including the closing of a brewery in Memphis.
The brewery will not close until 2007, but will affect 410 employees. The plant brews Coors Light, Zima XXX, Blue Moon, and Keystone Light, and brews nearly 3 million barrels a year.
Molson Coors plans to phase out operations later this year in an effort to save up to $35 million annually by the time the plant is closed.
A Reuters article says,
"Plans to shift production are still being finalized and Molson Coors said it will invest between $70 million and $90 million in capital expenditures in its North American brewery network, along with restructuring and other costs.
The brewery closure is one component of a wider plan that will result in savings of $175 million, the company said. It wants to optimize brewing and packaging operations and reduce related distribution and overhead costs."
