Sony PSP Set For US Launch In March

As Sony and Nintendo plan to square off for handheld gaming supremacy, Sony is preparing for the stateside launch of their PSP gaming device.

The PSP was first launched in Japan during the Christmas season last year, and was met with extremely strong sales. Since then, American gamers (those who didn't purchase an Asian version on eBay) have been clamoring for information about a US launch.

Evidentially, Sony heard the requests and has announced the US release date for the PSP. According to Pro-G.co.uk,

[The PSP] is set to hit retail stores in the USA and Canada on March 24th 2005. As was predicted, the package will come with the same accessories that the Japanese Value pack included: A 32MB Memory Stick Duo, Headphones, Soft case, sample disc and screen cleaning cloth.

As a bonus for the early adopters, the first one million Value packs sold will include the feature film Spider-Man 2 on UMD format. Sony plans to manufacture one million units for sale in the North American market.

The PSP is expected to retail for $249.99.
