Safety Hazard Causes Ford to Recall Vehicles

Ford is recalling nearly 792,000 trucks and SUVs due to risk of fire from speed control switch overheating.

Among the vehicles recalled are 2000 model-year F-150s, Expeditions and Navigators, as well as 2001 model-year F-Series Supercrews with speed control.

Ford spokeswoman Kristen Kinley says that overheating of the speed control switches could ignite fires under the hood. "We did determine the switch may be susceptible to overheating."

The company says it recognizes the inconvenience of the recall, but believes it to be in the best interest of the customers' safety.

Ford intends to send notices to owners of the vehicles in February.

"Once replacement switches are available, we will issue a second owner notification to have the switch replaced and the speed control reconnected," the company stated.
