Oracle and PeopleSoft have been engaged in an 18th month battle which appears to finally be coming to a conclusion.
Today, Oracle is advancing to the final steps in its completion of the acquisition of PeopleSoft. PeopleSoft will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Oracle,
According to eWeek,
"Oracle is set to officially launch the combined company on Jan. 18 with a Webcast dubbed "Oracle and PeopleSoft-Better Together." Oracle co-presidents Safra Catz and Charles Phillips will present.
Oracle has not yet officially disclosed the total amount of layoffs that will result as it seeks to streamline the new company, but CEO Larry Ellison in the past has alluded to layoffs that could number around 6,000. Oracle spokesperson Jim Finn has been quoted in the media as saying that the total headcount decision will be made known by Jan. 15."
Oracle says that they will "move ahead quickly with the integration of the two companies."
A CNET article claims that, "Oracle has already replaced some PeopleSoft executives with its own managers and has begun restructuring its own ranks. Prudential Equity Group reported in a research note on Thursday that Oracle has reorganized its own applications unit, firing many managers in that group."
